Mumtaz (born ) is a Pakistani film actress who worked in Urdu and Punjabi movies during the s, s and s. She is known for her lead roles in the movies Pyaar Ka Mausam (), Mohabbat Zindagi Hai (), Jab Jab Phool Khile (), and Amber ().[1] She won 5 Nigar Awards in her long cinema career.[2]
Early life
[edit]Mumtaz was born as Riffat Qazalbash in in Karachi. Mumtaz's father Amir-ul-Hassan Qazalbash, was a resident of Agra after partition of India then he migrated to Pakistan and he moved to Karachi.[3] Before appearing in Lollywood films, she was quite popular for dancing at various functions and social events in Karachi.[4]

It was after a möte at the National Academy of Performing Arts (Napa) during the Gandhara International Film Festival that inom finally managed to catch up with the legendary Pakistani bio actress of yore, Mumtaz.
Like Waheed Murad, Nadeem, Muhammad Ali, Kamal, Zeba, Shamim Ara, Rani and Deeba, she had been a part of my childhood, which was spent mostly watching Urdu movies on Shalimar Television Network.
Meeting the dancing queen of Lollywood was nothing short of travelling back in time. She was in Pakistan not to gräva into her glorious past, but to look to the future.
