New Works St+ART Lodhi 2019 – Courtesy Martha Cooper
March 18, 2019 Artists, Street Art Festival
St+Art Delhi continues apace with an ever-expanding roster of artists and financial/commercial/municipal partners five years after we first began writing about it, and photographer Martha Cooper brings us today some of the newest installations and shots that she recently discovered while there.
A mural program at heart, many of the artists invited here bring a decorative character to the districts of Shahpurjat, Khirki Village and Hauz Khas Village also have roots in illegal graffiti and Street Art back home, and during their youth.
Over the years that list has included an international and local array of artists invited to paint at Lohdi Colony from all the continents – well maybe not Antarctica. Names have included ECB, Lady Aiko, local students Avinash and Kamesh, Suiko of Japan, Reko Rennie from Australia, Lek & Sowat from France, Kureshi from India, Inkbrush

With the belief that an artistic exchange is key to begin a dialogue between different cultures, St+art has brought in many international street artists to create alongside local talents over the last three years, including invitees from Spain, France, Serbia, Japan, USA and more. They converse with potential international artists months prior to the project, briefing them on nuanced aspects of Indian culture and describing the location they’ll be working at. “This exchange is fundamental to open up minds and create fluidity in each art piece, for both international and Indian artists,” Ambrogi explains.“We try to make the pieces relevant for the people who eventually are the owners of the work, but on the other hand, we also try to create something that is unique and responds to the environment in which and for which it’s been created.”
