  • When Johnny Marcinko was born about 1958, in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, John Joseph Marcinko, was 25 and his mother.
  • This is the autobiography of Richard Marcinko of the US Navy, a killer with his own sense of justice, who became such a maverick that the Navy wanted him.

  • Admiral William H. McRaven, USN

You were at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey when you wrote The Theory of Special Operations, a remarkable thesis that has been widely read. What was the thinking behind that?

William McRaven: I had an opportunity at Naval Postgraduate School to do some thinking about special operations. And more importantly, I had an opportunity to travel to Europe and interview some of the great special operators of World War II and also kind of post-World War II. Most of them were still alive. They were in their 70s — early 70s to early 80s — and the folks I interviewed were still very sharp and remembered the missions they went on as though they were yesterday. So having an opportunity to sit down with these phenomenal officers and enlisted who had been part of some of the great operations in special operations history was just incredibly educational for me.

On the passing of SEAL Team 6 founder and American hero RICHARD MARCINKO on Christmas Day, 2021:

Dick Marcinko was a true American hero and a born leader. It was easy to see why warriors would not only follow him to hell and back, but achieve their objective and complete the trip alive.

Up until the publication of ROGUE WARRIOR there were only a handful of books and articles on the SEAL Teams and, as someone intent on joining their ranks, I read every one I could find, which, in the pre-internet days, didn’t take long.

Looking back, ROGUE WARRIOR is probably where the foundation of my disdain for “careerist” type officers and NCIS agents comes from, themes that those who have read my novels will recognize.

Following the success of his first book, others began to tell their stories, many focusing on special operations in Vietnam. I devoured those as well. Dick Marcinko left an indelible mark on the SEAL Teams, one that at times some senior officers probably wish he hadn’t.

There is no disputing that throug
