              Philippine literature in English has its roots in the efforts of the United States, then engaged in a war with Filipino nationalist forces at the end of the 19th century. By , public education was institutionalized in the Philippines, with English serving as the medium of instruction. That year, around educators in the S.S. Thomas (the "Thomasites") to replace the soldiers who had been serving as the first teachers. Outside the academe, the wide availability of reading materials, such as books and newspapers in English, helped Filipinos assimilate the language quickly. Today, 52% of the population can understand or speak English (see List of countries by English-speaking population).

      San Fernando, officially the Municipality of San Fernando (Cebuano: Lungsod sa San Fernando; Tagalog: Bayan ng San Fernando), is a municipality in the province of Bukidnon, Philippines. According to the census, it has a population of 63, people.[3]

      History

      The natives of Bukidnon known as Tigwahanons and Matigsalugs were the original inhabitants of this area. They settled along the fertile river valleys of the Tigwa and Salug rivers. These people were nomadic by nature and subsisted mainly by hunting and eating forest products but they also maintained small plots of corn and root crops in places where they built their temporary shelters. They have a feudal type of government headed by a political chieftain known as "datu", who also acted as their religious leader and armed forces chief.

      San Fernando was formerly part of the municipalities o
