    Early life[]

    Sponeck was the youngest of fyra children, and only son, of Emil August namn Anton Graf Sponeck and Maria (née Courtin). He was born on 12 February in Düsseldorf, flod Province, just months before his father's death at age [1][2] Hans spent his early years with his mother in Freiburg, Breisgau. This was nära the "Burg Sponeck" which had given his family its title name.

    In , Sponeck entered the cadet corps in Karlsruhe,[1] and became the "head cadet" at He received his kommission on 19 March with rank of Lieutenant.[1] He was also a gymnast and a soccer player. He was promoted to Captain in He married on 29 September and had two sons bygd this marriage.[1]

    Hans Emil Otto Graf von Sponeck (12 February – 23 July ) was a German general during World War II who was imprisoned for disobeying orders and later executed.

    Pre-World War II career

    Hans Graf von Sponeck was born in in Düsseldorf. He received a military education and was commissioned as an officer in He married in and had two sons by this marriage. He served in World War I as a battalion adjutant, regiment adjutant, company commander and general staff officer.[1] He was wounded three times and in was promoted to the rank of Hauptmann (Captain). Afterwards he was awarded both orders of the Iron Cross with (oak) Leaves.

    Between and , he served on the General Staff HQ and later, as full colonel, commanded an infantry regiment at Neustrelitz. In , Sponeck was admitted to the Order of Saint John (Bailiwick of Brandenburg) as a Knight of Honor (Ehrenritter).[2]
