Pride Film Festival opens tonight
Many of the films on display in this year's Pride Film Festival are certified San Francisco treats.
When organizers sought to stockpile films for the eighth annual tribute to gay and lesbian cinema, they searched from Tampa Bay to the 'Frisco Bay at that city's own salute to the genre in June. That festival used three theaters to screen 253 films in 10 days, the same time span as the Pride event.
We'll swap the extra reels for the lone, glorious Tampa Theatre setting and hope this shorter list of current gay cinema favorites means higher quality. At any rate, nobody will accuse the Pride staff of not doing its homework, including a trip to San Francisco's mega-fest.
