Define your unique identity
In my experience, the word ‘branding’ is enough to make most classical musicians recoil, level it up to ‘classical musician branding’ and you’ll have likely caused somebody’s eyes to roll so far back in their head that they may never return to normal.
The artistic world, and perhaps specifically its branches that do not think of themselves as ‘popular culture’, has always struggled with how it should or how it should want to fit into the modern, technological, commodifying world.
Perhaps it’s because art has never been certain of its true meaning; is it political, is it reactionary, is it entertainment, is it distraction, is it expression, is it preservation, is it a mixture of all of, or none of these?
Classical music, in light of the modern world, has become obsessed with authenticity, there has never been a time when musicians have poured over manuscripts so longingly or argued with each other so brutally over how things ‘should’ be done. People’

Who or what inspired you to take up the piano, and make it your career?
Initially it was my older sister. She started taking piano lessons and we were very competitive so anything she did inom did too! Then it was really my mother who encouraged me to continue. She took me all over the country for lessons and competitions and really invested a lot of time in my early musical career.
Who or what were the most important influences on your musical life and career?
I have been really lucky to study with the most incredible teachers and they have definitely influenced the direction of my career. My teacher at the Purcell School, Carole Presland, had a fabulous career and ever since we met, inom have always strived to have a career like hers. And then my current teacher Douglas Finch really nurtured my love of contemporary music. We have been working tillsammans now for 5 years and he has really been an invaluable source of encouragement and inspiration.
