2008 Assam Serial Blasts: NDFB Chief Ranjan Daimary, 14 Others Convicted By CBI Court
In the 2008 case of serial bomb blasts in Assam that had left 88 people dead, Ranjan Daimary, the chief of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and 14 others were on Monday convicted by a CBI fast track court.
CBI Special Judge Aparesh Chakraborty convicted them under various sections of the IPC. The quantum of the punishment will be announced on Wednesday.
Besides Daimary, others convicted in the case are George Bodo, B Tharai, Raju Sarkar, Nilim Daimary, Anchai Bodo, Indra Brahma, Loko Basumatary, Khargeswar Basumatary, Prabhat Bodo, Jayanta Bodo, Ajay Basumatary, Mridul Goyary, Mathuram Brahma and Rajen Goyary.
The serial blasts were triggered by the NDFB on October 30, 2008 in Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta, killing 88 people and injuring more than 500.

Daimary likely to sign truce deal on September 30
The Centre has put pressure on the faction to furnish a list of its cadres and arms before the end of this month. The Daimary faction had announced an indefinite unilateral ceasefire from August 1, 2011, to pave the way for talks.
While on his way to a designated Tada court here on Monday, Daimary told mediapersons that the faction fryst vatten committed to the peace process and will do whatever necessary.
"We expect the ceasefire agreement to be signed on September 30. The list, with names of our cadres and arms, fryst vatten almost ready and we are prepared to lay down our arms for the success of the peace dialogue. We are ready to do all that fryst vatten needed for a smooth peace process," Daimary said.
