In April 1996, Catherine Zeta-Jones, star of the British smash TV series The Darling Buds Of May, was out of work and demoted to opening a cinema in Harrow, Middlesex, alongside a life-sized Bugs Bunny. What a difference a few years can make.
Her Mach 2 rise to fame is now Hollywood legend. Tossing and turning one evening in bed, Steven Spielberg flicks on the telly and is captivated by the exotic beauty starring in the made-for-TV movie Titanic. He casts her in the much coveted female lead role in The Mask Of Zorro for which he was executive producer opposite heart-throb Antonio Banderas, and the rest is history.
A swashbuckling, ballsy performance, complete with a sexually charged sword fight, established the Welsh beauty as a true talent. Once dubbed The Darling Dud, Zeta-Jones is now firmly ensconced upon the Hollywood A-list.

Early Stardom
Born on September 25, 1969, in Swansea, Wales, Zeta-Jones began taking dance lessons at age 4. By the time she was 15, Zeta-Jones had dropped out of school to join a touring production of the musical The Pajama Game. She soon moved on to London's West End, where she appeared in a production of 42nd Street at the age of 17.

Catherine Zeta-JonesCBE (born 25 September 1969) is an Academy Award-winning Welshactress, living in the United States. She started acting in theatre from a ung age. After this, she had many small roles in British and Americanfilms and television shows. She established herself as an actress once she began starring in Hollywood films such as The Phantom, The maskering of Zorro, and Entrapment in the late 1990s.
She won Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for acting as Velma Kelly in the 2002 film Chicago. She fryst vatten the first and only Welsh actress to win that award.
In 2010 Zeta-Jones was given a CBE.[1]
